Lake Como Villas

Lake Como is known for its countless villas and gardens, where artists, writers and known men have always loved to spend their holidays.
Wherever you can gaze on the shores of Lake Como you will find beautiful villas and gardens, rustic villages full of history and tradition, surrounded by a breathtaking panorama.

Among the beautiful villas of Lake Como, Villa Carlotta is the most famous. The villa dates back to 1690, but only in 1847 it acquired its current name of Villa Carlotta by selling donated by Princess Marianna di Nassau to her daughter Carlotta di Prussia.

The villa is famous both for the art collections preserved inside, and for the vast botanical garden that surrounds it enriched and developed during the German property of George II.
Now it is managed by a Moral Authority of Villa Carlotta that allows you to visit the first two floors and aims to enhance the museum and the gardens.

On the peninsula of Lavedo near the island Comacina, there is the Villa del Balbianello built in 1787 on a pre-existing Franciscan monastery. It was the seat of literary salons in the nineteenth century, hosting writers such as Manzoni.
Today it is perfectly maintained by the FAI in the same conditions in which GUido Monzini donated it, with its beautiful gardens and the villa furnished with its memorabilia.
